Overview

What is .eu

.eu entered the internet’s root in 2005 as the European Union’s extension, and its manager in the IANA record is EURid vzw. It is a restricted extension: it may be registered by a citizen of an EU country or of Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway, wherever they live, by a person resident in one of them, or by a company or organization established there.

That is why most of our customers in Kuwait can’t register it: living in Kuwait isn’t enough, nor is a company established outside Europe. But anyone who holds citizenship of one of these countries, lives in one, or owns a company or association established there may, and it tells their customer or partner there that they’re close by.

And eligibility stays with the name throughout its term: if you lose your residence or close your company there, the registry may suspend the name and then withdraw it. It doesn’t allow registration through an agent or proxy, so the data must be the holder’s own. Its price with us is lower than .com and fixed every year, and it supports DNSSEC signing, not names in Arabic.

Who it suits

For your field: is .eu the best fit?

Every field has an extension that says something about it. Here is what .eu says in each, and which extension completes it.

  • A community association in Europe

    Excellent · The first choice

An association registered in an EU country is eligible for .eu, so it addresses its members and partners in every member state under one name.

    Register it with.eu.org

  • A store selling within Europe

Good · A good fit with .com

If your company is established there, .eu tells your buyer you sell from inside the Union; .com covers the rest of the world.

    Register it with.eu.com

  • A freelancer living in Europe

    Good · A good fit

Living in one of its countries is enough to register it, telling your client there you’re close by; add .me for your personal page.

    Register it with.eu.me

  • An exporter from Kuwait to Europe

    Consider another · Consider .com

A company established only in Kuwait isn’t eligible; .com takes you to your European customer with no conditions.

    Register it with.com.global

  • A local business in Kuwait

    Consider another · Consider .com

Your customers are in Kuwait, not in Europe, and .eu needs a link to its countries; your customer knows .com and types it out of habit.

    Register it with.com.shop

  • A personal page from Kuwait

    Consider another · Consider .me

You’re eligible only if you hold citizenship of one of the countries it covers or live in one; .me is personal and open to all.

    Register it with.me.name

What it does for you

What you gain when you register it

  • Says “Europe” in two letters

Your customer knows from the extension that you’re inside the Union, not outside it.

  • One name for every member state

Instead of an extension per country, one address speaking to your customers in every member state.

  • Email for your business in Europe

info@jisr-kuwait.eu is an address telling your European partner your business is established there.

  • An extension not open to all

Its conditions mean whoever holds it is a citizen, resident or body established in its countries.

And where its value shows

With European partners

An address saying you’re inside the Union.

On invoices and contracts

An extension matching your company’s address there.

At European trade fairs

Two letters visitors from any country understand.

In community newsletters

One link for your members in every country.
