Overview
What is .gift
gift is a short English word for a present, and many understand it without translation. It suits gift, flower and chocolate shops, whoever makes handmade gifts or prepares occasion baskets, and gift card stores. A name in it tells the visitor they came to choose something for someone else.
.gift entered the internet’s root in 2014, is run by Uniregistry, Corp., and supports DNSSEC signing, but it doesn’t support names in Arabic letters. With us its price is the same for the first year and every renewal, and it is among the lowest of the new extensions we sell, so its cost doesn’t weigh on a small shop.
It is a fairly new extension, less widespread than .com, and gifts are seasonal in many shops. So if your shop sells other things all year round, keep .gift for the gifts page in seasons and on occasions, and keep your shop’s permanent name in .com or .store.

Tips
Before you register
- 1.store for the shop, .gift for its giftsIf you sell more than gifts, give each its own address.
- 2Get the site ready before the seasonsRegister the name and launch its page well before the holidays, not in their week.
- 3A short name, read as it’s writtenIf it needs spelling out on the phone, it’s too long or too complicated.
- 4No digits or hyphens that need explainingEvery hyphen or digit has to be said, and what has to be said gets forgotten.
- 5Renew automatically, or register for yearsUp to 10 years at once, so you never miss a date.
- 6Make sure the name isn’t someone else’s trademarkA registered trademark’s owner can recover the name from whoever registered it first.
