Overview

What is .gold

Gold is one of the English words people know almost everywhere. The extension’s name ties it to the metal and its trade, and to the sense of excellence gold carries in speech. .gold entered the internet’s root in 2015 as a new generic extension; it is run by Binky Moon, LLC.

It suits goldsmiths’ shops, gold traders and jewelry makers, and also fits a service or membership that wants to say it’s the top tier. Where goldsmiths have their well-known markets in the cities and people buy gold for weddings and occasions, as they do in Kuwait, .gold states the goldsmith’s trade with no explaining, and it supports names in Arabic and DNSSEC signing.

We have a low first-year offer, but the renewal is among the most expensive extensions we sell, and the gap between them is wide, so count the cost of the following years before choosing it. It’s less familiar than .com, so register your shop’s name in .com too.

Who it suits

For your field: is .gold the best fit?

Every field has an extension that says something about it. Here is what .gold says in each, and which extension completes it.

It states your goods in a word every customer knows, and makes the shop’s name and address one thing.

    Register it with.gold.com

  • A goldsmith’s shop in Kuwait

Good · A good fit with .com

The market’s or city’s name before .gold tells your customer where to find you, and .com serves those who type your shop’s name out of habit; register both.

    Register it with.com.gold

  • Jewelry design

    Good · A good fit

For a designer working in gold it names the material, and .art completes it if the work is more art than trade.

    Register it with.gold.art

  • A membership or premium tier

    Good · A good fit

Gold is the sign of the top tier, so it suits a membership or premium service that wants to say so.

Tips

Before you register

  1. 1Compare your second year, not your firstThe offer covers the first year only, so compare the renewal price with another extension before choosing.
  2. 2Your shop’s name as the market knows itIf customers know you by a family or market name, make it your domain the way they say it.
  3. 3A short name, read as it’s writtenIf it needs spelling out on the phone, it’s too long or too complicated.
  4. 4No digits or hyphens that need explainingEvery hyphen or digit has to be said, and what has to be said gets forgotten.
  5. 5Renew automatically, or register for yearsUp to 10 years at once, so you never miss a date.
  6. 6Make sure the name isn’t someone else’s trademarkA registered trademark’s owner can recover the name from whoever registered it first.

After expiry the website and email stop, and you can renew in the first eight days at the regular renewal price; from day 10 it may go to auction.
