Overview

What is .mobi

.mobi entered the internet’s root in 2005, and its name comes from mobile, meaning the mobile phone. Its meaning speaks to anyone who offers their service by phone: an app, a phone and accessories shop, a messaging or top-up service, or a site that wants to say its design is for the small screen first.

Its manager in the IANA record is Identity Digital Limited, and it supports DNSSEC signing and names in Arabic. Its first year with us is an offer, while renewal costs much more, and more than a .com renewal too. Short words are easier to find in it than in .com.

Most important, know that sites today are built to work on phones and computers alike, so the same address opens on every screen, and a phone site no longer needs an address of its own. That is why we see it as an extra name for an app or a campaign, more than the only address for your business.

Who it suits

For your field: is .mobi the best fit?

Every field has an extension that says something about it. Here is what .mobi says in each, and which extension completes it.

  • A phone app

    Good · A good fit

A page introducing your app and its download links, under a name that says “phone” at first sight; .app is better known today.

    Register it with.mobi.app

  • A phone and accessories shop

Good · A good fit with .store

It says what you sell in four letters, and .store tells your customer in Kuwait they can order from you online.

    Register it with.mobi.store

  • Top-up and phone payment services

Good · A good fit with .com

It suits a service people use from their phones, but a payment page reassures more under .com.

    Register it with.com.mobi

  • A company or brand

    Consider another · Consider .com

Sites today work on phones whatever their extension, and a company needs the extension everyone knows.

    Register it with.com.app

  • An online store

    Consider another · Consider .store

Buyers shop from their phones on every extension, and .store says “store” more clearly.

    Register it with.store.com

  • A blog or personal site

    Consider another · Consider .me

Your personal site doesn’t need to say “phone”; .me or .name says it’s yours.

    Register it with.me.name

What it does for you

What you gain when you register it

  • Says “phone” at first sight

For a phone shop or a top-up service, the extension explains what you offer from the first read.

  • A link for your app

A short page like jawwal-kuwait.mobi that gathers your app’s download links and your offers.

  • Short words available

A short name is easier to find in it than in .com.

  • A lower-cost start

Its first year with us is an offer, so you can try your campaign or app on it.

And where its value shows

On a phone shop’s front

Says what you sell before the customer walks in.

In text messages

A short link that opens straight on the phone.

On product boxes

A QR code leading to the phone page.

In app ads

A link that says “for the phone” before it’s tapped.
