Overview

What is .university

The word university is the highest name on the ladder of education: an institution that brings colleges together and grants academic degrees. .university entered the internet’s root in 2014 as a new generic extension; it is run by Binky Moon, LLC and supports names in Arabic and DNSSEC signing.

Students and their parents read it as a statement of a university that grants degrees. So it suits universities, their programs, colleges and research centers, and misleads people if a course center, an admissions office or a site that grants no university degree holds it, even if its work is close to education.

Its price with us is fixed, the first year and every renewal, but much higher than .com’s. The word is long and needs spelling out on the phone, so register with it a short name in .com or .co that your students in Oman know, and .university carries your university’s name to those who look for you from abroad.

Who it suits

For your field: is .university the best fit?

Every field has an extension that says something about it. Here is what .university says in each, and which extension completes it.

  • A private university

    Excellent · The first choice

It tells students from the address that it’s a university, and .com completes it for those who type its name without an extension.

    Register it with.university.com

  • A university in Oman

Good · A good fit with .com

A short name in .com your students here know, and .university carries its name to those searching from abroad.

    Register it with.com.university

  • A stand-alone college

    Good · A good fit

For an independent college .college is more precise, and .university fits if it’s part of a university.

    Register it with.college.university

  • A university hospital

    Good · A good fit

It says it’s part of a university, and .healthcare says it treats patients.

    Register it with.university.healthcare

  • A study-abroad office

    Consider another · Consider .study

Whoever guides students grants no degree, and .university suggests a university; .study is more honest.

    Register it with.study.com

  • An online course platform

    Consider another · Consider .academy

Courses without a degree don’t need a university’s name, and students may take them for a university degree.

What it does for you

What you gain when you register it

  • The university in the address

Students know from the link they’re facing a university, not a course center.

  • Your colleges under one name

Each college gets a subdomain under the university’s name, so the family stays one.

  • Email that presents your university

info@manara-salalah.university tells whoever receives it that the message comes from a university.

  • Your name for students abroad

Someone looking for a university from another country reads what you are from the address.

And where its value shows

On the degree certificate

An address employers can check.

In the admissions guide

A link to colleges and majors.

At academic conferences

The university’s address beside every paper.

In faculty email

Its source known before it’s opened.
