Overview

What is .tax

Tax is the word itself, and it’s a short extension that names one field: taxes, returns, accounting and everything to do with working out what people and companies owe. .tax entered the internet’s root in 2014 as a new generic extension; it is run by Binky Moon, LLC and supports names in Arabic and DNSSEC signing.

It suits accountants, tax advisory offices and those who prepare returns for others, and fits a program that calculates tax or organizes invoices. Visitors read it as a statement of a tax service, so it suits those who actually offer that service, and misleads if a site that doesn’t offer it holds it.

We have a first-year offer, and renewal after it costs much more, so count the cost of the following years before choosing it. Many people know it less well than .com, so register your office’s name in both if you can, and put your city’s name in it if your customers are in Kuwait.

Who it suits

For your field: is .tax the best fit?

Every field has an extension that says something about it. Here is what .tax says in each, and which extension completes it.

  • An accounting and tax office

    Excellent · The first choice

It states your service in a short word, and makes the office’s address easy to say on the phone and in ads.

    Register it with.tax.com

  • An independent tax adviser

    Good · A good fit

Your name with .tax presents your work, and .pro completes it as a general professional address in your name.

    Register it with.tax.pro

  • Accounting for clients in Kuwait

Good · A good fit with .com

Your city’s name before .tax tells your customer you’re close by, and .com serves those who type your office’s name out of habit; register both.

    Register it with.com.tax

  • Accounting software or an app

    Good · A good fit

For a tool that calculates tax or organizes invoices, .tax states the purpose and .app says it’s an app.

    Register it with.tax.app

  • A general finance blog

    Consider another · Consider .blog

If tax is a small part of what you write, .tax confines your site to one topic.

    Register it with.blog.com

  • A store or trading company

    Consider another · Consider .com

The word tax on a store raises a question it has no answer to; choose an extension that names your trade.
