Overview

What is .website

.website entered the internet’s root in 2014, and its name is the word website. Everyone knows the word, so no one asks what it means, and it says what your visitor sees in front of them: this is a site, for a company, a shop, a person or a project.

It asks for no documents, and it supports names in Arabic and DNSSEC signing. Because it is longer than .site and .com, short words are more available in it, and you will usually find your name in it as you want it, with no digits or hyphens you’d have to explain to your customer.

But the first-year offer doesn’t last: renewal costs much more. Its length makes it heavier on a sign and in speech, and some people type .com out of habit, so register your name there too if you find it free.

  • We remind you by email 31 days and 8 days before expiry, and 3 days after it. After expiry the website and email stop, and you can renew in the first eight days at the regular renewal price; from day 10 it may go to auction. If it is deleted and the registry allows redemption within 30 days, the redemption fee is $200 plus a year’s renewal.
