Overview

What is .country

The word country means a nation or a homeland, and in English also the countryside, which gives country music its name. .country entered the internet’s root in 2014 and is run by Internet Naming Co.; it supports DNSSEC signing, but it doesn’t accept names written in Arabic letters.

With us its price is among the highest of all the extensions we sell, and it is fixed for the first year and every renewal. So we don’t recommend it as a general name for a business that can find its name in .com or .net for far less; it’s for anyone who sees in the word country itself a value no other extension replaces.

It may suit a farm or a country house that welcomes visitors, a project about the countryside and its life, or a brand tied to country music and its audience. For a business in the UAE, your city’s name before .com or .city says “my country” to your customers, at a cost that doesn’t compare.

Tips

Before you register

  1. 1Compare before you decideSearch the same name in .com, .city and .place; the price difference is large.
  2. 2Register it only for its meaningIf the word country isn’t part of your idea, nothing about its price pays you back.
  3. 3A short name, read as it’s writtenIf it needs spelling out on the phone, it’s too long or too complicated.
  4. 4No digits or hyphens that need explainingEvery hyphen or digit has to be said, and what has to be said gets forgotten.
  5. 5Renew automatically, or register for yearsUp to 10 years at once, so you never miss a date.
  6. 6Make sure the name isn’t someone else’s trademarkA registered trademark’s owner can recover the name from whoever registered it first.
